Success in Selling for MLM Companies and Distributors

Success comes down to Sales of Real Products/Services to Real People.

The challenge is that many people have an imaginable desire of Success, with no real Passion for a particular Product or Service.

Take the MLM Company.
MLM Company A sells Nutritional Products.
MLM Company B sells Candles.
MLM Company C sells Pearl Jewelry.
MLM Company D sells Voip Service
…You think, “These are limited markets.” “People are not impressed by any one single product.”

So, you set out to have 50,000 products, including Satellite TV Service, Mobile Phones, Cosmetics, Purses, and T Shirts. You want to mirror existing MLM Companies, that you believe have established this pattern and seen success.
…You think, “I can be the Walmart or Cosco to the world!!!!”

No need in drawing the picture any farther.
It may be you that I am writing about. An old-time preacher would say I am “Plowing up your Corn Row!”

Six months go by and you’ve taken on inventory, minimum order relationships with suppliers, print/marketing material, websites, MLM Software, conference call services, merchant accounts, office space, warehouse space, employees… and you’ve registered 200+ distributors with the largest commission check on sales performance of a mere $28.95.

What happened?
You selected Great Products that everyone “Needs”.
You established yourself as a potential Multi-Billion Dollar MLM Company.
There seems to be no excitement among your people. They say, they are excited, but sales tell a different story.

Answer: You took a Shot-Gun approach to your Product Line. That often leads to a Shot-Gun approach to other areas of your business, including Marketing.

With no single focus, your new distributors… your sales force has no focus. They show up to meetings, they smile, they go home… The sell almost nothing.

Had you chosen to launch on 1-2 products, of a common theme, you would have better sales and a growing sales force of independent distributors. Six months into business, make an announcement of a product release, to eager distributors, and an existing customer base. Carefully released with White Papers, Press Releases, YouTube Video, Conference Calls, and possibly an initial discount on the first orders, your product line just expanded with success!
Every 3-6 months, you introduce another product, appropriate to your company’s vision, current product line, and market demands.

Even if you are a nutritional supplement company with 200 products. Launch with 1-2 products and follow this formula of product releases. Then, you will see success.

As a Distributor, if your MLM Company has taken a Shot-Gun approach to thier product line, don’t loose hope.
Follow the same path I just laid out with the MLM Companies.
Select 1-2 products that You can be Passionate about. Remember, the best way to reach success in sales, is to have a personal testimony of what the product/service has done for YOU! Focus on those 1-2 products that you can be passionate about, that you use, and that you have a personal testimony about.
Then, and only then, are sales as simple as Sharing with Others.

After 3-6 months, announce through your personal customers and your personal sales team, a new product of the company for which you can now say you are passionate and WHY!

Keep the momentum going and show consumers your enthusiasm for Real sales of Real products/services that benefit Real People!!!

There are real companies, with real opportunities, selling real products/services to real people.

Job growth continues to slow with layoffs rising to 16 month high.

The world is split between the Have and the Have Not’s.
The news today should be exciting for all.  Currently, no matter who you are, the Have or the Have Not, Opportunity Abounds!

Understanding Party Plan as a Business Model

As a point of notation, an estimated 95% of participants in a Party Plan business model are women.
Party Plan is a methodology of selling, ordering, and shipping.
Many Party Plans work on the premise of a Hostess, differing them from traditional MLM’s. A traditional MLM utilizes Distributor (Independent Representative) and Customer/Consumer.
distinguishing the two is the Distributor has the opportunity to earn reward/commission, and or build a sales team. The Distributor normally chooses to become such and provides a Federal Tax ID number and Date of Birth. The Customer only participates in purchasing products as a consumer.
A Party Plan injects a role between the two…. Hostess.
Generally, a Hostess can better be described as a HomeOwner.

The HomeOwner invites, say 50 friends to a Party on Thursday Evening. The Distributor arrives and spreads out the company’s product line. At the close of the evening, the Distributor conducts sales to New Customers. The total of orders is often used to reward the HomeOwner with a Free Gift or Gift Certificate based on dollar volume of sales. The HomeOwner can be a Customer, can be a Distributor, but is most often a Customer receiving a Gift for organizing a gathering for a Distributor to conduct sales.
Company’s vary on the order process, but some allow the total orders to be bulk shipped to the Distributor, the Hostess, or some to be individually shipped to a Customer. Delivery method chosen could save or cost more for the Customer.
Compensation, Commissions, Benefits, or Rewards are mostly framed on a 1 to 4 level deep UniLevel Structure, however not limited to a UniLevel in any way. There are Matrix and Binary Party Plans which have been very successful as well.

The atmosphere of selling centers around the product and seldom mentions a business opportunity or income potential for those that choose to become an independent representative over a customer.
The benefit for becoming an independent representative is generally pitched as saving 30%(as an example) on your purchases.
Again, seldom does conversation go any farther. The focus is on the product, gathering others together and sharing the product line, your excitement, and testimonials from those in attendance.

Fact 1: Income is derived from sales.
Fact 2: Continual Income requires Continual Sales.
Fact 3: Continual Sales requires Continually locating New Customers or Repeat Sales to Existing Customers.
Fact 4: Finding new customers takes time, energy, and money.  
Fact 5: Successful companies know that the cost of selling to existing customers is far less than acquiring new ones.  In short, we like to see consumable products that people cheerfully place repeat orders for.

Coffee fits the criteria and in some cases may have tremendous nutritional value empowering many companies to become extremely successful, time and time again.

Coffee requires no refrigeration, is light and easy to ship, tangible (merchant providers love tangible), has long expiration dates and shelf life, is normally packaged to withstand temperature, humidity and moisture, as well as consumable within weekly or monthly periods.

Finally, Coffee is a commodity so price fluctuation is an issue, however proper inventory buying should provide stable pricing for your consumers.

Now everyone is looking for something different.  A higher quality, a better price, sexy or youthful packaging to make me feel good about myself for taking it, ingredient combinations to insure absorption, inclusion of “Buzz Ingredients” like Mangostien or Acai Berry.

Feminine Sanitary Napkins, the Perfect Re-Purchase

28 Day Cycle of RePurchasing, an MLM Dream

Ok, this one is different, but INSANE potential.  Some would put this under Hygiene, while in reality it belongs under health.   Additionally, the nature of this subject is a bit Hush-Hush and personal.   That said, I will lay out some basics.

a.) Very Large Target Market
Women age 13 to 50, over 120 Million in the USA
b.) Re-Purchaseable
Every 28 Days
c.) Market Size
Projected to reach over $14 Billion by the end of 2015.
d.) Health Risk with Current Products
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) Checkout the warning labels on packages!

I am not promoting, nor attacking a particular product, but uncovering an incredible market and potential product line.  Yes, there are companies that have entered this market, and yes, they have done pretty well.  That said, they have their failings in a Multi-Billion Dollar Industry.

One company entered the market in the USA, selling a Month Supply for about $80 Distributor Price, with a product that costs under $15.  Furthermore they knocked down almost $1 Million in sales within the first 3 weeks.

Hmm….. a bit of calulations….

If we give them a Month and round the number to $1 Million,
12,500 sales times $80 = $1,000,000.
12,500 sales times $15 = $225,000.
Potential Net Profit in 1 Month! $775,000

Interesting, and consider that the Customers re-purchase every 28 days (we will call it a month), we are talking over $9 Million in potential net profits by the end of a year. **With only 12,500 Customers!

Normally, I write articles, blogs, releases, etc. with more meat and potatoes of text, but folks, this is insane!

More important, I should issue a disclaimer  state that Income Projections of any sort should be performed by you if considering to launch a business.  I am not making any income projection, just an interesting observation from known data.

Shrimp, Crab, Lobster of the Month

Shrimp
Believe it or not, Live Shrimp has been done as an MLM and was very successful.  Live Shrimp on dry ice, packed in a foam cooler, with 24 hour delivery allows the Shrimp to begin waking from their sleep when the package arrives.

Lobster
I have personally worked with Maine Lobster suppliers, providing Live Lobster on dry ice, packed in sea weed and delivered the same way.

Crab Legs
Considering how much my wife enjoys Alaskan Crab Legs, I added them in the mix here.

Each of these examples have common issues to consider.  They’re prices can fluctuate based on current supply and demand.  Environmental and weather events can drastically impact price and availability, and hence your bottom line.

From oil spills in the gulf to extreme weather in the north-pacific, if you consider this product category, stay on top of current news, weather, and financial events in order to quickly adjust your pricing.  Be aware that adjustments in your pricing can effect consumer willingness to continue monthly auto-ships.
